Madam Secretary

It started with an episode of House of Cards. Main character Claire Underwood was sitting at her vanity and I immediately realized how empty my life was because I don't have a vanity.

I decided I needed a place to spread out my stuff, a place where I could sit down and debate the merits of the charcoal mascara verses the jet black.

I have an odd little alcove slash balcony space off my bedroom that I wrote about last fall. It's not living a purposeful life.

The console those items are sitting on holds odds and ends, and underneath the console we stuff packages of paper towels and toilet paper, extra booze, and other items that could easily be stored somewhere else. I used to use this space to write, and at some point I repurposed the furniture used for that and voila! Storage space it became.

It's a perfect spot for a vanity. Putting makeup on in natural light? Yes, please.

Which brings me to the secretary I spotted on Craiglist, that would have been perfect on the right hand wall (not seen in the photo; to the right of the floor lamp).

It would look good from the window, it would look good from the hall.  It would look good in the space. I envisioned filling the top with books and lovely trinkets, and using the drawers as storage for makeup. The pull down desk would hold a mirror. Add a great chair and yay! Vanity!

Except the seller won't respond to my emails, or the emails of my friends, despite the fact that they keep lowering the price. Likely some sort of scam, which I could get over if I weren't now obsessed with having a secretary as a vanity.

So now I wait for a perfectly sized (tall, but not too wide) reasonably priced secretary to become available. Once I have the vision, nothing else will really do.

First world problems indeed: having to stand up in the bathroom to apply makeup. Barbaric, I tell you.

So annoying when sellers don't respond, yet the item is still listed. I hope you are able to find something similar.
