A Month for Indulgence

Just a bit.

January is probably my least favorite month of the year. I don't feel the sense of renewal a lot of people feel, because my sense of renewal tends to kick start in spring. That's just the way my mind works.

I don't make New Year's resolutions (or spring resolutions for that matter), because if a good idea for change pops into my head, it seems reasonable to just start doing it and not wait for a certain time of year. Not that ideas for sweeping change pop into my head with any regularity.

I feel that January is probably the worst month to begin making changes that involve any sort of discipline. January is for indulgence. When I left the house this morning, it was fourteen degrees. Fourteen degrees is for delicious hot chocolate, not counting extra steps in a frozen parking lot.

I had some of this hot chocolate at an ugly Christmas sweater party back in December, and it is perfection. Rich, chocolaty, and made for a crowd since it sits in a crock pot until it's gone. It's definitely on the naughty list, so in the spirit of other people's resolutions I recommend saving it for a party.

Meanwhile, I'll be waiting out this even colder than usual January dressed as comfortably and as warmly as possible. Netflix will be seeing a lot of action. My running shoes will not.

I do plan to fire up some on demand Yoga and stretch myself out. Once spring comes, I won't want to have dissolved into some unrecognizable blob who can't fit into her linen pants.

Hmm. Maybe I should halve that hot chocolate recipe. :)

I ate so bad over the holidays that I had no other choice but to cut back in January! It's been so cold out that I don't want to do much of anything. Just walking outside to check the mail has become a chore! LOL!!
